Arsenal could be handed the perfect chance to sign Joshua Kimmich with Bayern Munich open to selling the midfielder this summer.

Kimmich, 29, has been an integral member of the Bayern side over the past nine years following his £6million move from RB Leipzig. He has made 390 appearances during his time at the Allianz Arena, winning 20 trophies including the Bundesliga eight times.

But Kimmich, who has one year left on his contract, could leave Bayern in the summer transfer window. Sky Sports Germany have reported that Bayern are considering selling the Germany international, as they prepare for a radical overhaul of their squad under new boss Vincent Kompany.

Sky claim that Kimmich is one of no fewer than six top stars Bayern are open to offers for this summer. Former Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry, Netherlands defender Matthijs de Ligt and midfielder Leon Goretzka, forward Kingsley Coman and Morocco ace Noussair Mazraoui also feature on the list.

Reports emerged last week that Kimmich would be more than open to joining the Gunners, who are looking to strengthen their squad this summer. Kimmich, who scored against Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-final second-leg back in April, is supposedly going to be available for £25m.

Kimmich is predominately a right-back but can operate in central midfield as the deep-lying playmaker. At the start of the 2023/24 season, Kimmich was being used as the defensive midfielder before dropping back to right-back for the final couple of months as outgoing Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel changed his role.

Despite the rumours circulating surrounding his future, Bayern legend Lothar Matthaus has urged Kimmich to stay at the club this summer. He told Fussballnews: “No, he should stay here.

“Kimmich has to come to terms with it if the coach wants to play him at right-back, because he can be world-class there too. Sometimes it’s bad luck for a player to be world-class in two positions.

“Kimmich is a team player. He has character and that’s why he will do his best in the national team and also at FC Bayern if his coach wants him to play on the right side.”
