Arsenal Predicted XI vs Sheffield United

Arsenal head into their clash at relegation-bound Sheffield United in buoyant mood following yet another ruthless display in their victory over Newcastle last time out.

The Gunners have plenty of momentum in the Premier League title race and Arteta will be desperate for that to continue at Bramall Lane tonight.

Goalkeeper David Raya

Raya will of course keep his place in goal unless a last-minute injury prevents him from doing so. After plenty of question marks early on following Arteta’s decision to bring him in for Aaron Ramsdale, the Spaniard has since made the spot his own. Since the mid-season break and winter training camp in Dubai, the keeper has looked at home in goal for Arsenal and been a key figure in their recent success defensively.

DefenceBen White, William Saliba, Gabriel, Jakub Kiwior

The defence lists itself right now considering the recent fine form and injury concerns over Takehiro Tomiyasu and Oleksandr Zinchenko. The only spot that would be up for debate usually is Kiwior’s position but he has deputised very well in the Ukrainian’s absence and helped Arteta’s side look far more solid in recent weeks.

MidfieldDeclan Rice, Martin Odegaard, Emile Smith Rowe

Midfield is where the dilemma currently is for Arteta amid receiving a timely injury boost. Thomas Partey is set to return to the squad for tonight’s fixture, teasing hope of a potential formidable partnership alongside Rice. But the Ghanaian’s inclusion in the starting XI may come too soon.

Therefore, Arteta has a decision to make over who will play alongside Rice and Odegaard. And like against Nottingham Forest, in a game where Arsenal were big favourites, the Spaniard could look to give Smith Rowe some much-needed game time next to his reliable duo. The young English star is still getting back up to speed with things after injury problems, but he could give the Gunners an exciting attacking dimension at Bramall Lane with his clever runs into the penalty area.

Jorginho may feel hard done by, but Arteta is clearly aware of the value his veteran Italian star possesses, and he’ll prove a key figure going forward in the title race with him set to play in showpiece matches against the clubs biggest rivals – just like he did against Liverpool and Newcastle.

AttackBukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard

Arteta could make another change up top as he looks to shuffle his pack to ensure freshness and no injuries ahead of the crucial Champions League second-leg clash against Porto next week. And Trossard could come in for Kai Havertz up top at Bramall Lane.

Against a struggling Sheffield United defence, Arteta will be very tempted to include the Belgian international as his silky feet and creative link-up play – alongisde key men Saka and Martinelli – could prove too much for the hosts to deal with. There are goals in this game for the Gunners if they’re at their best.
