Saka’s first of his two came from the spot after being brought down by Alphonso Areola. The goal meant he reached his landmark half century for Arsenal.
In just 210 games, the England international has also assisted 49 goals, an extraordinary record for a 22-year-old. Saka’s impressive milestone also came on a record-breaking down the club, with the 6-0 win their biggest-ever Premier League away win.
After the game, Saka spoke to Sky Sports about the win alongside Martin Odegaard. The winger was asked about his 50th goal for the club, something he was unaware of.
Saka let an honest smile appear on his face when he was told of the record, though he did insist he was annoyed at one part of the game.
“We were 4-0 up in the first half and I think we could’ve scored many more, including myself, but we still smelt blood and went for the kill,” he said.
“We’re happy. To be honest, I’m really happy to achieve that [milestone] but honestly I’m more annoyed at the chances that I missed today that I could’ve scored. Obviously it’s a great achievement though, I’m proud of that.”
Odegaard, who was once again fantastic for Arteta’s side, joked after that he was waiting for the forward to net a hat-trick. According to sofascore.com, Saka had eight shots in total against West Ham but managed only two goals.
