Arguably, being able to take their foot off the gas in the top flight helped City go on and win both the FA Cup and Champions League. Last season, Arteta’s men learned their lesson and were much more competitive in the title race.
The battle would go until the final day of the season, with City just about to pip them to a record-breaking fourth successive title. However, Pep Guardiola’s team finished the campaign without the FA Cup and Champions League as their squad was stretched across several competitions.
Heading into the 2024/25 season, Martinelli believes the realistic objective is to be battling on all fronts. Speaking ahead of Brazil’s Copa America campaign, the 23-year-old told Spanish publication AS: “We have a very young team with a lot of potential.
“Without a doubt, we are going to grow much more. We are going to fight for all the titles: the Premier League, the Champions League, FA Cup.
“People trust our work a lot. Now we have to focus on winning titles.”
Martinelli’s opinion is also shared by his manager. Arteta told fans after the last game of the season: “All this is happening because you started believing, you started to be patient.
“You started to understand what we’re trying to do. Keep inspiring this team. Don’t be satisfied. We want this [the Premier League], and we’re going to get it.”
