Bayern Munich are reportedly progressing in discussions to land young Arsenal prodigy Chido Obi-Martin after the 16-year-old rejected a scholarship renewal offer.

The Dane netted an incredible 32 goals in 18 Premier League 2 games in the academy this season and has already clocked 10 goals in 14 under-17 Denmark caps. Obi-Martin has been in incredible form since March, which has attracted interest from afar.

The forward scored in each of his final nine league games this term, netting seven times in a 9-0 thrashing of Norwich City in April. That was the fifth time he had scored four or more goals in a single match this term.

Martin-Obi scored twice at the Under-17 European Championships over the past month as Denmark made the semifinals and so, with international games included, he has recorded 43 goals in 42 outings.

The Academy Scoop claims that Bayern have taken advantage of a breakdown in talks between Arsenal and the player, and are advancing in talks to land the teenage sensation. It postulates that Borussia Dortmund are also keen on his signature.

This is a change of tide from the youngster’s intentions, having outlined his desire to stay in North London last month. “I would like to stay at Arsenal for a long time,” said Obi-Martin, who has already played for the club’s under-21s.

“It’s a good club, I can feel that I’m getting much better in training. There are a lot of good people and good coaches, so I’m really happy to be there.

“Maybe I will have to play permanently at Under-21 from next season. There aren’t that many strikers in the squad so it will be a good opportunity for me. Arsenal is a club that gives young talents the opportunity to play.”
