Declan Rice sent a classy message to Manchester United’s Mason Mount after the former Chelsea midfielder won the FA Cup on Saturday – though Arsenal’s response on social media was a bit less complimentary.

The Red Devils defeated Manchester City at Wembley Stadium in a cup final thriller, with Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo inflicting a surprise defeat on their city rivals.

Jeremy Doku’s goal made it a nervy finish for Erik ten Hag’s finish but United kept their nerve to lift their 13th FA Cup title. With the odds backed heavily against them, many have labelled the recent cup success as their best one yet.

After the game, Mount posted a series of images from the cup final including one with his medal and the famous FA Cup. He wrote: “Ending a frustrating 2023/24 with a trophy. Your support pushed us all the way today as it has all season. Thank you United.”

Rice was quick to congratulate his friend on Instagram, commenting: “Love it you” followed by emojis depicting clapping hands and a red love heart. Both players grew up together in the Chelsea academy but have only managed to play together with the England national team.

The official Arsenal account, though, contributed to the FA Cup frenzy in a different way. Minutes after the final whistle was heard at Wembley Stadium, they put on X: “We have a legacy in the FA Cup like no other team having lifted the trophy a record 14 times.”

It was taken as a cheeky dig at their Premier League rivals, who are still one FA Cup triumph short of matching Arsenal’s impressive record.
