Ian Wright has hailed Bukayo Saka as “the star” of Arsenal’s resurgence after the in-form winger equalled his record for the club.

Saka scored for the fifth Premier League game in a row on Saturday, as the Gunners thrashed Newcastle 4-1 and kept themselves firmly in the title race.

The last English player to achieve such a feat for Arsenal was Wright back in 1994. And having been shown the statistic while appearing as a pundit on Match of the Day, the ex-Gunners striker said: “Nice one, Saka. Like he says, all he wants to do is to carry on doing his stuff. He’s the greatest. He’s a star. He’s the starboy, man.”

Thanks to notching doubles against both West Ham and Burnley in recent weeks, Saka now boasts seven goals in his last five top-flight appearances. His superb form has coincided with Arsenal’s improvement since their mid-season break in January, with Mikel Arteta’s side winning every league game since and scoring 25 goals in the process.
