Despite two attempts in their challenges against Manchester City for the Premier League title, the Gunners have yet to pip Pep Guardiola’s side to ultimate prize in England’s top-flight with the striker’s contribution being a modest 15 league goals during these campaigns, reports the Mirror.
Wright had previously lauded Jesus in 2017, then just 19 and playing for Man City, for his decision-making and off-the-ball movement. Speaking on BT Sport following Jesus’ goal and assist in a 4-0 victory over West Ham, Wright said: “When you watch the way he played, it was very mature, the choices he made, the runs he made”.
The Arsenal great went on to add: “I would like to think yes, in the end, I learned how to do it, but at 19, he is doing stuff I was doing when I was in my prime at 28!”
Now 27, Jesus’ time at Arsenal has been marred by injuries, often resulting in him being benched in favour of their £65million man, Kai Havertz.
In January, Brentford’s Ivan Toney was mentioned as a potential addition to the Arsenal squad, further suggesting that Jesus’ role in the first team was diminishing. Strikers Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak, despite their hefty price tags making them unlikely signings, have also been linked with a move to the Emirates.
If Arteta decides to put Jesus on the transfer list this summer, he certainly won’t be lacking in interested parties. As per football.london, teams from the Saudi Pro League are keen on securing his services.
