Jakub Kiwior has claimed that Sergio Ramos was his role model for becoming a centre back.

With who he describes as his idol, it’s easy to see why Mikel Arteta was so keen to sign Jakub Kiwior in January.

“As far as playing my position is concerned, my inspiration was Sergio Ramos,” Jakub told Arsenal.com. “We would often watch his video clips.”

“If I start a match on the bench, I’m always prepared to go and play,” he said. “I’m prepared for the team and for the coach to do my best. I think that everybody within the team has a very good relationship with the coach, the same as me.”

A strong defender, adept with the ball, aggressive in the duel and capable of playing either centre back or at full back, it’s easy to see how a prime Ramos would have ticked almost every one of Arteta’s boxes. The Spaniard has shown a preference for versatility in his defensive purchases since arriving as Arsenal manager in 2019. Almost every new signing Arsenal have made at the back is capable of playing in more than one position. Kiwior is no different.
