Sources: Arsenal smash £200m barrier as Jurrien Timber deal is finalised

Arsenal are set to sign Jurrien Timber from Ajax in a deal that is worth just over £40million, sources have told Football Insider.

A transfer has been expected, and verbally agreed for some time, as the Gunners have looked to get a transfer over the line.

Timber, who has two years left on his contract at Ajax after signing an extension last summer, is now expected to soon become Arsenal’s third marquee signing this summer

Arsenal were handed a boost in completing a deal when Football Insider were exclusively told that Liverpool have elected not to rival Arsenal for the signature of Jurrien Timber this summer.

In total, with a move for Timber to be in the £40m region, it would take Arsenal’s summer transfer spend beyond the £200m mark.

Football Insider revealed ( 13 June) that Mikel Arteta’s side had agreed terms with Rice in a deal worth £100m-plus.

With Havertz already being confirmed as an Arsenal player for a fee of around £65m, it means that Timber is likely to be the third signing in a busy start to the transfer window for the Gunners.

The defender has been part of the Ajax set up since joining their youth side in 2014.

Timber played 34 matches for Ajax in the Eredivise last season, contributing to two goals and two assists from defence and picking up just three yellow cards in the meantime.

The defender is also a full Holland international and has made eight appearences with four of these coming in last year’s World Cup.
