The agent of Jorginho has admitted the Arsenal midfielder could leave the club at the end of the season to secure a return to Italy.

Jorginho is out of contract at the end of the current season and talks over a new deal are believed to have been put on hold until the end of the campaign.

The 32-year-old joined the Gunners from Chelsea in January of last year and has proven to be a useful option for Mikel Arteta, particularly due to Thomas Partey’s prolonged absence due to injury.

It remains to be seen whether or not Jorginho will remain at Emirates Stadium past this term, with the player’s agent Joao Santos admitting nothing is certain at this stage.

“The squad is Arsenal’s strength,” Santos told TMW. “Today they’re a squad that lead the Premier League, they’re in a position of absolute importance. They’re in the Champions League, they face Bayern and there’ll be a lot of emotion until the end of this season.

“He’s out of contract with the Gunners, we’ll talk to them because he’s doing well. We will see if they need him from next season.”

When asked if Jorginho may return to Serie A, where he previously represented Hellas Verona and Napoli, Santos said: “It’s always like this in football. Jorginho has played in Italy all his life, he likes it a lot, why say no?”

Jorginho’s performances for Arsenal have helped him secure his place in the Italy squad for this summer’s European Championships, where he will hope to play a crucial role in defending the Azzurri’s title.

“I was at the stadium, I watched him live,” stated Santos after attending Italy’s recent friendly win over Ecuador. “Italy are on the right path now, they won two important friendlies in the United States against South American national teams such as Venezuela and Ecuador. Now focus is on the European Championship.

“Jorginho lifted the trophy at Wembley, it’s right to think about the positive aspects of his career, not just the negative times. It’s football, that’s how it works. I hope he lifts the trophy in Germany too with the Italy shirt.”
